Carrie Fisher may have passed on, but her legacy remains. Princess Leia will return for Episode IX the last film of the newest Star Wars trilogy and will not be CGI.
Confirmed by her brother Todd Fisher, Lucasfilm has footage of Carrie that they would like to use in the last movie. They sought permission from Carrie’s daughter Billie Lourd and received approval.
As reported by the New York Daily News, Todd Fisher said, “Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don’t.”
Fisher continued, “She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan – when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what’s happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue.”
Some may have differing opinions as whether or not Fisher should continue to appear, but we believe that the Star Wars fans and fans of Princess Leia should have no problem with allowing the legacy of Carrie Fisher to continue to finish out the trilogy.
How will she appear, and how much? That has yet to be determined, but we will know once the story is leaked or released.
Fisher said that Carrie is “owned” by the people. She is part of our hearts as Star Wars fans. He has confidence that Lucasfilm will “do great things” with her image.
“You don’t mess with this legacy,” he said. “It would be like rewriting the Bible. To me ‘Star Wars’ is the holy grail of storytelling and lore and you can’t mess with it.”
How much will Carrie Fisher appear in Episode IX? What will be the storyline? Time will tell. One thing is for certain. With the on screen death of Han Solo we fans will never get to see that magic moment when Han, Luke, Leia and Chewie all appear on the big screen together at the same time…one last time. But at least we get one more movie with our princess.
